I received a new laptop a couple days ago and have been configuring everything how I like it since. I have been really impressed with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit along with the performance of the Dell Studio XPS 1340 (1066 FSB, 8GB DDRs RAM, 2.66 GHz Duo Core Intel with 6MB L2 Cache).

Dell Studio XPS 1340 Max Resolution:

One thing that I don't think I am going to like the answer to is the fact that currently I am unable to figure out how to make the resolution any better than 1280x800. I purchased the upgraded Nvidia video card which means that I have the Nvidia GeForce G210M with 512MB of RAM.

Hybrid SLI Performance & Battery Saving Technology:

When I look in device manager it shows not only the Nvidia G210M installed but also shows the Nvidia GeForce 9500M with 256 MB RAM installed as well. I believe this is because of the Nvidia Hybrid SLI technology and my laptop only uses the Nvidia 9600M when the power mode is set to Balanced or Mobile and then when it is set to Performance it uses the Nvidia G210M.

So the real question is can the Dell XPS 1340 run at a resolution higher than 1280x800?

Well I got the answer I did not want on this one... The answer is on the laptop itself no it will not. I assume the limitation is the WLED screen from Dell.

The only way to get a better resolution is to use an external monitor at which time you can then go way higher and I was able to test to 1900x1200 which was the resolution of an external monitor I used to test.

Luckily the 1280x800 that the Dell Studio XPS 1340 is limited to actually looks really good. I typically prefer a higher resolution but it isn't bad at all on this new laptop.
